Lacrosse Spring Break Trip 2010 - Disney or Bust!

This year, I again took my lacrosse team to Disney's Wide World of Sports for spring break.
Nick's parents were kind enough to come out and Nick took some time off of work to take care of Mia while I was gone. I left the camera home with Nick so he could document their week in DC, but unfortunately I don't really have any decent pictures of their week... because I left the camera home with Nick (if you get what I'm saying).
Disney is one of my very least favorite places in this world (sorry, Mia... you're out of luck), so I was second guessing my decision from the moment our travel began... especially when we had to wait in line...after line...after line. By the end of our first day I had had about enough of the "Go wait in this line for 45 minutes for the ______ (fill-in-the-blank with luggage, bus, check-in, etc.," and ending with a falsely cheerful, "Have a magical day!" after they have just informed you that your day is shot.

One of the many endless lines before we even left the Orlando airport.

But the primary reason for the choice in location was for the great playing opportunities and nice facilities. Here is the team after a great victory over Golden High School (Colorado).

Every day we had a practice or scrimmage, a game, pool time or a park, conditioning most evenings, and lots of team bonding time. The days were packed and everyone was exhausted, but we still made time to have some fun. The trip ended up being over April Fool's Day and, as coaches, we had to do something. After a particularly tiring day, towards the end of a very tiring week, we told the girls they would be running a timed 3.6 mile route and competing in teams after we got back from a park at around 9pm. They had already had a 2 hour practice & played a tough game in the heat before spending even more time outside at Hollywood Studios. We had them all lined up, ready to start the stopwatches, and said, "Ready, set, April Fool's!" We made 3 girls cry (with relief, I think) at that moment and we felt a little bad, but not really. They were so tired! Instead we did an Easter egg hunt for plastic eggs that had dares inside. They could choose anyone on the opposing team to perform the dare. It got pretty entertaining. And no dare marathon is complete without someone jumping into a pool with all their clothes on.

It ended with most of the team either jumping in or getting pushed.

Somehow (thankfully) the coaches escaped that little maneuver. No one pulled a single prank or April Fool's joke on us the entire trip. THAT is a first in all of spring break trip history.

By the end of the week, everyone was still alive and smiling, but we were all ready to go home.

Here are the brave souls who joined me on the trip - my assistant coach & a parent chaperone who were both lifesavers and so much fun to be with.

And as a sidenote: It IS possible to have a sock tan AND a flip flop tan at the same time, folks. Not the best picture of it, but believe me, it looked GOOD (still does).
